  • Terrible experience!! by Eva (Stayed on Jan 02, 2016)

We were absolutely disappointed by this place!! We booked a room at Familia Sarmiento but the owners took us to their second house across the street which has NOTHING in common with the photos!! The room is dodgy and dark with no window except to the kitchen/eating area so rather than fresh air you get smell of fried food and dinner noise when you would prefer a bit of privacy. Worst of all however was the mould and mouldy air you breathe in there! There is an enormously loud water pump and handle for the shower is broken. The owners were so impolite as well. The next day we told them we were disappointed to not find the room we actually booked in the internet and the guy offered us a 5 CUC discount for it. We took a little trip to town and then got back to find the furious lady who owns the house screaming at us that she immediately wants the remaining 5 CUC as well and threatened us that otherwise she would take us to the police station. We paid and were only glad to leave this place. I would strongly discourage you from staying there!! We had 6 casas in Cuba each of which were fine or even lovely but this one was dreadful!

  • Perfect Stay in Santa Clara by Dominik Kellner (Stayed on Mar 31, 2014)

We had a wonderful stay at the Casa of Famila Sarmiento. The casa is a typical city casa and is directly in the city center, but the rooms are very calm. The flat and the rooms are very nice designed, with a lot of antique furniture and collectibles. The only thing is, there is no window in the room, but we didn't mind this, because of the good air condition. The bed was quite soft, maybe not for everyone comfortable. The breakfast and dinner were amazing, the breakfast was the best we ever had in Cuba. Beside the standard breakfast, they serve a bigger one, which is well worth the extra CUC. It has every day some extras as pancakes, small cakes, a kind of self made cereals, battida de mamei, sweet toast fried in egg ... We really loved our stay and would come back! Patricia and Dominik.

  • Casa Familia Sarmiento – Santa Clara review by Zdravka Basrak (Stayed on Mar 01, 2014)

This is a very welcoming and warm home with wonderful hosts. Carlos speaks excellent English and has a ton of information on anything Cuban. His wife Geydis is a remarkable cook, friendly and was very helpful with all our requests. How was the food?
The food was excellent, and the hostess can cook anything, including vegetarian meals. Make sure to let her know if there is anything you don't eat. Portions are huge. How was the room?
The room was tidy and clean, pretty and functional. the only thing is that the spring mattresses are pretty old and should be updated.
