  • Wonderful hosts and staff, excellent casa by Tony Zegarchuk (Stayed on Nov 11, 2016)

This was our 8th time to cuba, but only our first time in Matanzas, although we've passed through it many times flying to/from Varadero. Matanzas is more like the cuba we knew from several years ago -- few tourists, very friendly locals. In other words, a wonderful break from the tourist overload affecting Trinidad, Havana and Varadero. To get to the casa, turn left outside the viazul bus station and walk about 3 and a half blocks down the main road. Very easy to find. The casa is actually 3 homes now, all without a block or two of the main one. All three meals are available if wanted (most casas serve only breakfast and dinner). The food was excellent, and everyone working in the kitchen/dining area took an interest in you, so it really felt welcoming. Next year when we go back to cuba, we will pass more than a single night there to try and enjoy the town a little more. How was the food?
Meals were excellent. Other meals taken by those sitting near us looked equally good. How was the room?
The room was in a different house from the main one, and we had the entire floor (two rooms, so four beds, are available, but it seems that they do not rent out the second room to a different group) which included a kitchen, balconies, roof top patio, living room -- basically an entire house. It would be an excellent pick for a family or pair of couples. Other Comments
    Will definitely go back.

  • Casas Villa Encanto I & II by Tomas Nejedly (Stayed on Dec 06, 2013)

Excelent services and really friendly people. One of the best accommodation in Cuba during our trip. Victor and his son gave us few really good tips on trip close to Matanzas (Coral beach, Saturno cave, valley,...) and took us anywhere by car. We spent 3 days there and definitely do not regret
    ). How was the food?
One of the best ever. Delicious, huge portions and relly good price. Very tasty omellete for breakfast. How was the room?
Lovely, clean with wonderful decorations mainly bathroom. Other Comments

  • A great introduction to Cuba by Brent Goff and Carol Murphy

This was the first casa we stayed in when we arrived in Cuba, and they arranged our pickup from Varadero airport. The house is on a major street just a couple blocks from the bus station. Victor and Gloria are excellent hosts, and couldn't have been more helpful with information about local attractions and how to get there. If you haven't arranged your future travel, they, like most other casa hosts we encountered, can set you up with someone down the road. In our opinion, the hosts and the other folks you meet when travelling in this way in Cuba are one of the best reasons to stay in the casas particulares. How was the food?
The food was delicious, well priced, and beautifully presented. There was always a large plate of fresh fruit- pina, papaya, banana, etc. with every meal. Soups with dinner were invariably scrumptious. You order what you want for dinner in the morning, and it's there on your plate at night. There's no temptation to look for a restaurant if you're staying here. How was the room?
Our room was clean and pleasant, and there was a table and chairs on a little patio right out our door. In addition there was a lovely shaded patio where we ate our meals, usually in the company of a friendly and pleasant couple whom we got to know who were staying in another room at the house. You can also climb up to the rooftop to watch the sun go down if it suits you.
